How your contribution is calculated

Since 2023, the self-employed contribution is no longer a flat amount: you contribute based on your real net income. The more you earn, the higher your minimum contribution base and, with it, your monthly payment.

Net income is worked out by subtracting deductible expenses from your income and applying a 7% generic deduction (3% for company directors) for expenses that are hard to evidence.

That figure places you in one of the 15 brackets in the official table. Each bracket has a minimum contribution base, and your monthly payment is that base multiplied by the contribution rate (31.5% in 2026).

If you've just started out, the flat rate lets you pay a reduced €80/month for the first 12 months, extendable by another 12 if your income is below the minimum wage.
